Mixing: "Wer Wind sät"

We are back from mixing in Berlin. Lasterbalk and myself went to Trosis studio in Berlin to mix the upcoming "Saltatio Mortis"-record "Wer Wind sät". The record is the best-sounding album "Saltatio Mortis" made and we're really proud to have such a great-sounding product to release at the end of august 2009.

Duet on tour

090417-duet UPS just stopped by to bring me my new external soundcard which is the "apogee duet". A friend of mine gave me the tip and now I am in my studio to try out all my instruments. Should sound amazing ...

My plan is to use it for teaching, recording everywhere and also production-wise. I think you will hear soon what this baby does :-).

Yes, boys need to play!

No Amsterdam just work

The guys from Diesel Vanilla have to play the concert in Amsterdam without me. Very sad, but I have to stay here and work with Saltatio Mortis.

A friend of our drummer Heiko will replace me and I think he will have fun with the guys on stage. Thanks to the internet and my library I send him my bass-scores and rehearsal-audios that he can prepair for the gig. This is a great way to work - just love the internet. More about my work with Saltatio Mortis after it's done.

Full throttle

We started to rehearse our medieval and our new rock set at monday and we got about 3 weeks to our first show. That means everybody has to be prepared well and we are! Some songs got new arrangements because of the new "size" of the band others remain the same we played them last year. We are in the middle of the first week and things start to sound very well. Jean (our new member) does a great job keeping the groove throughout the songs and also comes up with lots of ideas.

These pictures here show my working-place (great looking carpet!) as well as Jeans drum-castle he has set up in the rehearsal-space. I will keep you updated.

No amp on stage?

Some of you may wondered why I don't have a bass amp with me on stage and where my bass sound comes from. With Saltatio Mortis we all use "InEar-Monitors" (headphones where we hear the whole band) on stage. This system allows all of us to have the same sound everywhere on stage.

I don't use an amp because the sound of our InEar-System is very good and allows me to hear my basses and the stick very well. For my sound I use a Line 6 Pod X3 Live which simulates lots of different amps and many effects. It also has 3 inputs which is perfect for me with the bass and the stick.

Bogart Basses

Bogart is back in production (no, not Humphrey!)! Stefan Heß started to build Bogart Basses again and now he has the first models finished and they sound amazing on the website. Can't wait to get my hands on one of them. I also have 2 Bogart Basses (one fretted and one fretless) which are my main instruments at the moment (the red and the bluein the picture). If you are a bassplayer check them out they are great and Stefan does a super service!

New rehearsal-space

Yesterday we moved into our new rehearsal space in Karlsruhe and today we organised our room which will make rehearsals much more comfortable and relaxed. We have plenty of space and more rooms too (I will try to catch those with my camera in some days). Here's a first panorama of our new working-space.

Last show with 8 bandmembers

Last night we played a medieval festival in Illingen (with John Kelly, Megaherz & Van Canto).

It was the last concert of Saltatio Mortis with Cordoban and Thoron in the band - we wish them all the best for their future. Next week we start to prepair our new program for medieval markets and rock shows - while Alea will be in Berlin to record vocals for our new album which will be available in august 2009.

Photoshooting

I am back from the photoshooting we had for our new album and we also did new shots for the press. We finished in time. Annette did a great job as well as the band and our female make-up artists (everyone has one! - thanks for your patience with the whole band). I am not really sure if you can imagine posing and standing around the whole day but I need some rest now.
